DOCK FOREMAN - Primary Plant Level

POSITION PURPOSE

The Dock Foreman supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in dock activities which include uploading/loading of vessels, barges, and skiffs. The Dock Manager also inspects shipments for proper quantity/quality and coordinates/directs employees in offload/pumping operations of fishing vessels. The Dock Foreman reports to the General Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees dock crew.
  • Responsible for the training of dock staff to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Tally all incoming and outgoing freight and product. Records weights, counts, parcels accurately. Must be familiar with fish ticket operations.
  • Coordinate, prioritize, supervise, and assist with loading/unloading activities.
  • Provide accuracy on all tally sheets, receiving reports, and movement sheets.
  • Responsible for ensuring dock operations meet environmental and safety regulations and policies.
  • Responsible for overseeing dock maintenance and repair.
  • Responds to change productively and handles other duties as required.
  • Follows company policies and procedures.
  • Assists in scheduling fish deliveries and all related regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • High School Diploma or GED; or one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have basic understanding of the English language, including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must have knowledge of forklift operations with certification.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be familiar with automatic scales for weighing fish.
  • Must be able to interact/respect fisherman and crews.
  • Familiarity of crane and hoist operations required.
  • Knowledgeable and trained in Coast Guard reaction plan to spillage of diesel, oil, gasoline, and other discharge.
  • Must have knowledge of Alaska Commercial Fishing reporting requirements.
    • Must be drug free.
