Staying The Course On Sustainability

Alaskan fishermen who were determined to make a positive difference for fishermen and their communities started Copper River Seafoods, Inc. over 15 years ago. We have continued to be true to that mission - consistently increasing investment in fishing communities, employment for Alaskans and wild Alaska seafood products for a growing list of local, national and international customers.

SustainabilityCopper River Seafoods has stayed the course by remaining committed, year in and year out, to our Alaska fishing fleets, their communities and the sustainability of their fish stocks.   As a result, over 10 years ago, we supported Alaska’s seafood industry that requested an independent assessment of the health of Alaska’s fish stocks using the Marine Stewardship Council, 3rd party sustainable seafood certification program. In 2007, Copper River Seafoods once again paid to support a follow-up assessment to apply for the MSC certification. More recently, the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute has introduced an alternative choice for an internationally recognized certification program called Global Trust, which has already approved most of Alaska’s wild seafood species.  The choice of programs now offers professional seafood buyers an option to meet and exceed their sustainability plans. Copper River Seafoods, Inc. has and will continue to participate in both programs.

While we do not decide sustainability standards on behalf of our customers, we welcome their overall support of our core values; 1) strong stewardship of our resource 2) taking our rightful role to make a positive impact and 3) establishment of a sustainable business model in Alaska, by Alaskans that supports the future of our fishing fleet, their communities and families future.
