General Ledger Accountant

   Copper River Seafoods, Inc.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within an organization. The GL Accountant will report directly to the Senior Controller         

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform general accounting, reconciliations, and other related duties in daily administration of accounting department. Assist with general ledger to include the preparation of journal entries, coding of invoices, accounts analysis and reconciliation, and setting up new accounts.
  2. Maintain and reconcile accounts within the General Ledger. Ensure all entries are accurate and that transactions are reported in accordance with GAAP accounting standards.
  3. Prepare journal entries related to amortization, depreciation, accruals.
  4. Assist/backup for monthly bank reconciliation, verifying all bank activity.
  5. Address questions and problems from banking institutions. Assist Senior Controller with daily wires, ACH’s and other banking transactions.
  6. Assist with maintaining accounting records and schedules for fixed assets.
  7. Responsible for outside audits at fiscal year-end to include preparing schedules, invoices, reconciliations, and providing explanation of supporting materials and procedures, and preparing any other necessary data. Assist with quarterly bank collateral audits as needed.
  8. Monitor accounts payable duties such as verifying all invoices for payment, ensuring expenditures are properly coded to correct general ledger account.
  9. Maintain records of all financial documents with appropriate supporting material. This may include contracts, leases, amortization schedules, fixed asset and depreciation schedules. Update records as necessary.
  10. Recommend, design, and implement any necessary department controls.
  11. Other duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a similar area of study required. Public Accounting and/or audit experience a plus. CPA designation is preferred.
  2. Three (3) to five (5) years' accounting experience plus knowledge of computerized accounting system, ability to work with detail, and good organizational skills. Experience in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains preferred.
  3. Advanced skillset in Microsoft Excel is critical for this position. SQL Experience is also helpful.

 

 

 

INDEPENDENT ACTION:

Duties performed independently. Recommends, designs, and implements controls based on department objectives and auditor recommendations. Consults with supervisor regarding major policy decisions, capex expenditures, and unusual problems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Typically oversees Accounts Payable daily operations but will assist the Senior Controller in reviewing other employees work.
