General Manager, Plant

 POSITION PURPOSE

General Manager, Plant – is responsible for the profitable operations of the assigned production facility and reports to the Chief Operations Officer. In keeping with the mission and policies of Copper River Seafoods, Inc., the General Manager creates and implements the functions of planning, organizing, staffing, controlling, and evaluation. They coordinate with other managers to leverage resources, standardize systems, cross train staff and create the strongest possible efficiencies for maximum resource utilization.

The General Manager has principal responsibility for the facility to be aware of and in full compliance with regulations and policies that may apply to their facility. The position ensures quality seafood is purchased, processed and shipped; and that the plant and personnel comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining a healthy and safe work culture that supports retention toward the long-term sustainability of the facility and company. The position will be training active plant staff and supervisors to support a pipeline of management talent.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General Manager – Plant Operations (Locations: Cordova, Kenai, Anchorage, Togiak and Naknek)

  • Supervising and directing plant employees
  • Creating a healthy environment for reliable access to fish resource and maintenance of strong fishermen relationships (including lending) and coordination of tenders.
  • Maintaining logs and files for compliance with state and federal agencies.
  • Assuring management and reporting of inventory of product parts and supplies
  • Managing all backload and offload operations.
  • Ensuring personnel are correctly recruited, trained, supervised, retained or terminated including all related documentation in keeping with policies of CRS.
  • Conducting and organizing pre-season preps and post-season closures.
  • Assuring new hire training and on-going training programs in compliance with state and federal agencies, customer compliance contracts and those related to personnel safety and reduced company risk initiatives.
  • Maintaining a working relationship with other company functions to include sales and accounting.
  • Enforcing and practicing ADEC regulations, Alaska Department of Labor laws, Workers’ Compensation and OSHA regulations.
  • Communicating and coordinating with other plants on daily base on staffing, equipment, logistics and additional resources to create the greatest synergy, efficiencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

   

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 10 years experience in Alaska food processing/manufacturing.

Minimum of 5 years progressively increasing plant/manufacturing management responsibilities, including recruiting, supervising, budget development, reporting, plant production scheduling, etc.

Minimum of 5 years primary manufacturing experience with variety of wild seafood species including salmon, halibut, cod, crab, etc.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

Proficient at Excel, Word and PC office environment.

Strong written and verbal skills for report writing and training.

Well-organized with a proven ability to manage multiple projects and activities.

Excellent computer software and internet skills.

Managerial budgeting and cost analysis experience.

Understand and adhere to all Federal and State regulations, permits, and reporting requirements.

Comprehensive knowledge of employment law, recruitment, workers’ compensation, quality assurance necessary.

HACCP/SSOP certification.

 

OTHER:

Position is based in Alaska, requires some travel and/or assignment to remote seafood/harvesting processing locations. Position open until filled.
