QUALITY MANAGER - CRS OPERATIONS

Purpose:

The QC Manager oversees inspection and testing of materials and products to ensure adherence to established standards. The QC Manager performs inspections, checks, and tests for quality control for the manufacture of seafood products. Duties include performing QC assays, writing and establishing specifications, assisting in the validation of QC assays, and writing Standard Operating Procedures. The QC Manager is familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. They rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The QC Manager is considered a working manager. They lead and direct the work of all QC Technicians. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.  The QC Manager reports directly to the site General Manager.

  • Creates weekly, monthly and annual statistical reporting to include trending analysis for, but not limited to the following: customer complaints, quality checks (e.g. nematodes, vacuum seals, weights & measures etc.), company/co-packer product cuttings (TBD), wastewater, internal/external audits, environmental sampling and micro analysis.
  • Leads routine HACCP and Food Safety Team related initiatives.
  • Validates finished product, packaging, and labeling against established specifications.
  • Primary site BRC Leader.
  • Leads and conducts routine third party audits (e.g. BRC, FDA, DEC, USDC, MSC/RFM, OSHA, Kosher, AWWU) under the direction of DOC.
  • Leads and conducts routine internal audits (AuditMatic, Quarterly BRC, Traceability, HHS etc.) under the direction of DOC.
  • Leads, trains and develops Quality Control Technicians (QCT) and Plant Sanitation Crew Members (PSCM’s) under the direction of the DOC.
  • Ensures calibration of seasonal facility QCT’s and PSCM’s under the direction of the DOC.
  • Ensures calibration of controls related equipment/tools.
  • Investigates reasons for customer complaints and implements permanent corrective actions.
  • Maintains an effective pest control program
  • Conducts all required training (GMP’s, HAZWOPER, HACCP, Sanitation, Chemical Usage etc.)
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards, and assures adherence to these codes and standards.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  •     Working in-depth knowledge of food manufacturing.
    •       5 plus years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    •       Proven problem solving, decision making, and project management skills are necessary for success.

 

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. To perform this job successfully, an individual must have moderate knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software, and presentation software.

Environmental Conditions:

Indoors in normal office environment with exposure to excessive noise and temperature changes when on production floor.

 

Frequent unscheduled interruptions.

 

Physical Demands:

Mobility within all areas of the facility required. Frequent use of a computer

Personal protective equipment is required when on production floor.  Personal protective equipment includes: plant boots, hairnet or beard net if needed, and white smock.  Additional protective equipment may be required when obtaining samples from production.

 

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, speak, and understand English, and use customer service skills. The employee is frequently required to use interpersonal and teamwork skills.
